Mindfulness-based stress reduction: A powerful tool for mental health support

By: Brittany Gonzales

What is mindfulness?

  • Mindfulness-the art of being consciously aware of your thoughts and actions; to be fully present; not overwhelmed or overly reactive.

Mindfulness is a beautiful thing. I try to practice this in my daily life, though regretfully here recently I have not been practicing this. Living a life of mindfulness in itself is an art form.

When you are a mindful person, you try to consciously wake up the inner workings of your mental, emotional, and physical processes.

One way you can do this is through meditation. Focus your thoughts, emotions, and body. Relax your muscles, take a deep breath and release. Think of a place that makes you the happiest. For me these are the mountains and being out in nature, just breathing in the fresh air and releasing it back again.

Aww, such bliss comes from being out in nature and no worries are on your mind.

Mindfulness can be practiced every second, every minute, every day. You just need to be aware of your actions, thoughts, and the inner workings of your psyche. Practice calmness, learn to use your words for good and not bad. Be a good worldly citizen and do not judge others or condemn them.

Mindfulness entails so much that this is great practice for your mental health.
